Here we go...
After a few days of staring at walls and staring at each other, with the occasional reading of the book or watching a DVD on a laptop, it was decided this must change. (Nicole needs her technology) After much craigslist searching Nicole got a lead on a FREE TV 42" one, Free is just the right price for use theatre people. She made the arrangements for us to go pick up the TV, in Breckenridge on our day off.
Sunday the quest for technology officially began. Dani, Nicole and I all pilled into the car whose turn it was to drive and headed to target in hopes of purchasing a wireless router as the internet company had informed us that the internet had not been shut off from the previous tenants , so we should be able to use that internet for free for a few days before our service. Thinking we only needed a router we went to electronics and were reading and examining all of our options. We then realized we also needed a modem, but Target only had one and was not in a price range we liked, which then led us to the office store where apparently they don't sell modems because most internet providers in the area rent them, but we wanted to just own one because that meant having the internet faster and not waiting for an installation guy to come. We surrendered for the day deciding to hit up walmart on monday.
Monday (our day off) came, after sleeping in it was decided to go to brunch at the village inn, from which the quest for technology began, a simple task no? First we went to Walmart to acquire the technology needed to get our internet up and running and long behold we were successful( a few more mini adventures/ team building things happened, but I'll save that for in person chats). We then followed Jay to drop off his truck at home, then all piled into Nicole's 2 door red car, following so far? things are going smoothly. We then proceed to drive to Breckenridge to find the storage locker this woman has the television in/ is living in. We reach Breckenridge and drive far into town not finding it, take the turn about to turn around and head back the other way to locate this place. We drive up into the mountains, then back down and then back up in the mountains and down again (a very scenic and lovely trip I might add, but not helping with the quest destination). Upon finding out we were indeed on the right road, we reached the bottom and found the storage sheds that held the prize of the free television. The woman had been waiting for some time now, but it was cool because she got to let her dog out and after all she does live there so no big, right? We get out of the car, Nicole opens her trunk. Jay and I walk over to the door to get the TV....... it is most definitely not a TV to be trifled with, it was taking up almost the entire area of the doorway as well as propping up a wood pile that was at the bottom of the stairs. Jay and I take perspective sides and lift and begin to move with the Television in hand, soon it becomes clear that this Television is not only huge but its no light weight, so Nicole assists in the carrying as well. Upon reaching the the trunk we placed the television in the trunk, but not really in the trunk...... We adjust the television 3 different times in hopes of getting it to fit in the trunk or at least sit in a way that we could tie it in. You guessed it, that was NOT gonna happen, after admitting defeat to the trunk we picked the television back up, removing it from the trunk and setting it down on the ditch type area near by. We exclaimed "We'll be back for it" to which the lady responded "please, please come back for it".
On we went to get Jays truck, the television would most certainly fit in the back of it. Here comes a brief funny part, I was in the back seat and in my attempt to get out and either ride with Jay or get to the front seat was foiled by the seatbelt locking into place and catching me, in response to this Jay silently got in his truck and sped away, I moved to the front and we continued back to the television. This attempt was successful and resulted in returning to the housing with the tv, which we loaded on to its stand and wheeled into the apartment with the help of Dani.
Then ensued figuring out how to get the internet to work, many phone calls later the Google screen made its appearance on Nicoles screen to which we all rejoiced and Dani played some triumphant music on her computer.
Here ends the first major adventure of the summer. Stay tuned for the next adventure.
